Schools working to keep children safe

To the editor:
I hope that all your readers realize that our schools and our children are not safe. Our children go to Mars Hill Elementary School. The school has a policy there, “that the parents are not allowed to go down the halls or to the classrooms”. The parents or whoever it may be must “stop” at the office and “stay” in the “lobby”.
Some of the parents are complaining about this. I wonder if the parents realize that the office staff, the teachers, and principal are only trying to protect our children. They don’t know who is going to walk through the front doors.
These people in the Mars Hill school system are working hard to keep all the children “safe”. The least we can do as parents is to cooperate with them for the sake of our children. I’d rather have my child locked up in a classroom than I would have my child harmed by a stranger.
I have to thank everyone in the school for standing up for what they believe in. All of them care about the safety of our children. I would like to see the parent shave a little more patience with the school on this matter. I hate to see our school to be a statistic. We don’t realize how lucky we have been so far.
Let’s give the school a round of applause for stepping up to the plate before any harm has happened. I would say that as long as my child is safe I am glad and if they need to take further steps they should.
