Pony League results
On Monday, July 16, RBD faced Fort Fairfield in a tough Pony League match-up.  This contest was very tight with Fort Fairfield leading 6 to 5 entering the fourth inning. RBD was able to break it open by scoring seven runs in the fourth and fifth inning to seal the 12 to 6 victory. Ethan Braley was the winning pitch with relief assistance from Derek Sczuroski.
Ethan Braley led the offense with two doubles, a single, and two RBI. Brennan Shaw rapped a triple, a single and had an RBI. Trey Stewart contributed two singles and three RBI. Wilder York, Derek Sczuroski, and Amos Dean each had a double. Connor Shaw laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt that scored Wilder York from second base. Jordan Hallett chipped in with a RBI single.
Derek Sczuroski, Connor Shaw, and Wilder York were the defensive stand-outs in this game.        Wednesday, July 18, found RBD once again competing against Fort Fairfield. RBD jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and were able to hold off a very hard-nosed Fort Fairfield team 15-5. Ethan Braley picked up his second win of the week on the mound. Derek Sczuroski and Brennan Shaw each pitched an inning of relief to preserve the victory.
Amos Dean had a tremendous day at the plate to lead the RBD offense. He tripled, singled three times, and knocked in two runs. Derek Sczuroski had four singles and 2 RBI. Ethan Braley belted a two run home run and doubled home another run. Brennan Shaw singled twice and had two RBI. Connor Shaw hit two singles and collected one RBI while Wilder York had two singles and two RBI. Ethan York continued his solid hitting by adding two singles. Trey Stewart and Travis Powers each had a single and an RBI. Ryley Norton and Cole Richards each hit one single.
Ryley Norton, Amos Dean, Brennan Shaw, and Derek Sczuroski played solid infield defense. Andrew Kofstad, Cole Richards, and Connor Shaw made nice plays in the outfield.
The last game of the Pony League season was one of the best of the summer as RBD faced the very talented team from Mars Hill. Brennan Shaw was the starting pitcher for RBD and he gave up two runs in the first inning. He settled down and held Mars Hill scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when they scored one run. RBD was shut out until the bottom of the sixth inning. They were able to rally and win 4-3 on a two-out, two-strike double by Andrew Kofstad.
Brennan Shaw was outstanding on the mound in the complete game victory. He was assisted by his catcher, Steven Ford, who called a marvelous game. Amos Dean, Wilder York, and Derek Sczuroski made great plays in the infield. Cole Richards played a flawless centerfield to keep the game close.
The RBD offense was led by the clutch double by Andrew Kofstad. Brennan Shaw ripped a single and double, Ethan Braley had a RBI single, and Ryley Norton doubled.
Major League results
On Monday night, Rotary picked up their first win of the season with a 12-10 victory over first place Kiwanis.  Griffen Lovely, Connor Savage, Khyver Lowe, and Hale Cushman combined for the win on the mound.  Rotary was led offensively by Cody Flannery with four hits and 5 runs batted in.  Josh Gordon and Khyver Lowe each had two doubles. Logan Craig and Connor Savage also picked up hits for Rotary.  Tyler Seeley smashed a home run and added a single for Kiwanis. Corey Belanger and Tony Curtis each doubled and singled, and Cody Lyford and Jacob Williams also both had hits.  Tony Curtis pitched three strong innings, allowing just one run.  Ryder Soucy, Liam Hughes, and Khyver Lowe all made great plays defensively.
Wednesday morning saw all the teams in action, playing each other once.  In the first game, Kiwanis defeated the Elks 4-2.  Jacob Williams and Corey Belanger each had two hits to pace Kiwanis. Andrew Dyer, Craig Nadeau, Cody Lyford, and Tyler Seeley picked up one hit each.
For the Elks, Jonah Stephenson had two singles, while Jacob Player and Brandon LeBlanc each singled once. Aaron Kofstad also drove in a run by getting walked with the bases loaded.  Jacob Williams made an unbelievable diving catch in the outfield to save two runs.  Trevor Levesque anchored some solid infield play for the Elks, snagging a hard hit line drive. Jeremy Parlin also chipped in with several plays at shortstop.
Wednesday’s second game saw the Elks bounce back to pick up the 5-4 win over Rotary.  Jacob Player and Jeremy Parlin combined for the win on the mound.  Jacob Player also powered the offense with a double, a single, and three runs driven in.  Jonah Stephenson also doubled and singled for the Elks.
Brandon LeBlanc and Kyle Goupille each added singles, and Jeremy Parlin chipped in with an RBI. Cody Flannery had the lone hit for Rotary, and also drove in a run.
Logan Craig, Hale Cushman, and Connor Savage all made fantastic plays in the field for Rotary.
Jonah Stephenson’s diving stop at shortstop highlighted some great infield play for the Elks, which was also aided by the play of Trevor Levesque, Michael Guerrette, and Aaron Kofstad.
The final game Wednesday morning had Kiwanis downing Rotary by a score of 8-5.  Corey Belanger pitched a gem on the mound, while being backed up by strong defense from Tony Curtis, Jacob Williams, and Liam Hughes. Connor Savage and Ryder Soucy played great defense for Rotary.
Offensively, Cody Lyford, Jacob Williams, and Corey Belanger all had two hits for Kiwanis.  In addition, Tony Curtis, Tyler Seeley, and Andrew Michaud also had hits.  For Rotary, Griffen Lovely had a triple, while Hale Cushman and Logan Craig each added a single and drove in a run.
Major League All-Stars
The Presque Isle All-Stars hosted Mars Hill on Thursday, July 19. Presque Isle scored 5 runs in each of the first two innings and won 11-0. Tony Curtis pitched very well in a complete game shutout. He was helped defensively by several of his teammates. Corey Belanger did a superb job behind the plate. Jacob Player, Jonah Stephenson, Michael Guerrette, Josh Gordon, and Tyler Seeley all made nice plays in the infield.
Tony Curtis was the leading hitter with a double, single, and four RBI. Jacob Parlin singled twice and had an RBI. Jacob Player singled to plate two runs while Griffin Lovely and Corey Belanger both had a RBI single. Jacob Williams added two singles and Jonah Stephenson contributed a single to the Presque Isle All-Star offense.
Minor League results
Starting up week 4 of the Minor League was a round robin style tourney held at the pool field.  The first game of the day saw K of C take on First Citizen’s.  Nick Raineri pitched a shutout for K of C, allowing just three hits while striking out 14 batters.  Oliver Gerrish was equally impressive, striking out 11 batters and also giving up three hits.  K of C was able to turn those three hits into four runs, and took the game by a score of 4-0.  Picking up hits for K of C were Chase Norton, Patrick Cash, and Nick Raineri.  Ben Buckley, Kyle Nadeau, and Oliver Gerrish all hit safely for First Citizen’s.
Game two featured Key Bank and Katahdin Trust.  Key Bank started Andrew Paterson on the mound.  He had 8 strikeouts in a winning effort while Brian Fournier had seven strikouts with a loss but a valiant effort.  Devin Cray helped Fournier’s efforts with some fine defensive play in the field.
Scoring runs for Key Bank were Andrew Paterson, Travis Sylvain, Keeghan Lowe, Kyle Kilcollins, and Joseph Boone.  Katahdin Trust got a great hit from Ryan Bridges to lead their offense.
The third game saw Key Bank take on First Citizen’s. First Citizen’s pitcher Ben Buckley held Key Bank to just one hit and allowed no runs, helping the team to the 6-0 victory.  Buckley helped himself at the plate with two hits.
Matt Tilley, Mitchell Kelley, Jacob Carter, Oliver Gerrish, and Kyle Nadeau also each contributed a hit.  Nadeau ended up with three runs driven in as well.
K of C and Katahdin Trust hooked up in the day’s finale.  Chase Norton pitched a hone hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead K of C to the 3-0 victory.  Devin Cray got the lone Katahdin Trust hit. It was an exciting game, perfect to wrap up a fantastic morning of baseball.
Senior girls softball
The Aroostook Youth Softball League started its first year this summer with the help of the Presque Isle Recreation Department.  The new league (comparable to baseball’s Babe Ruth league) differs from the Rec. because games are at night.  Although the 13-16 year old age group has seemed to decline in interest over the past several years, both Limestone and Caribou have started their own teams.  Presque Isle hopes this league will grow over the next few years in efforts to strengthen the varsity and junior varsity levels.
The first game of the new season was against Caribou at the Presque Isle field.  Although the Wildcats dominated in the first three innings, (one hitter by Alecia Palmer), the Vikings Caught up and edged Presque Isle b y a score of 12-10, scoring 9 in the last up-to-bat.  Palmer and Courtney Colligan combined to have six strikeouts.
Katie Patenaude and Kayla Richards split catching duties behind the plate.  Richards had a double and a single in the game, Patenaude had her first RBI of the season, and Kaitlyn Martin had a single.  Colligan and Kate Campbell joined efforts to make many pitcher-to first base plays.  Chelsey Caroll had a spectacular catch at second base.
The second game, which was in Limestone, was definitely a barnburner.  Teams battled back and forth each inning to fight for the lead.
Hitting singles in this game were Hillary Albert, Alecia Palmer, Jessica Theriault, and Kate Campbell with three, and Bethany Beckwith with two.  Doubles in this game were from Albert, Mackenzie Pinette (also with a triple), and Theriault.  This outstanding hitting allowed Presque Isle to earn the 17-16 victory.
Theriault, Palmer, and Courtney Colligan combined for 8 strikeouts.  Katie Patenaude had two catches in right field.  On July 3, Presque Isle traveled to Caribou to play their Rec. team.  In this low scoring game, Alecia Palmer and Jessica Theriault had a spectacular game on the mound, sharing eight strikeouts.              Mackenzie Pinette did a terrific job on first base, not letting any balls go by.  Kate Campbell had two singles during this game, also driving in Palmer for a RBI as well as the first run of the game in the top of the third inning.  Beth Beckwith and Hillary Albert had two great catches in the outfield.      The Vikings walked away with the 4-3 victory in the extra innings.
On July 12, the Eagles of Limestone traveled to Presque Isle for another match up.  The Wildcats had a solid first inning, hitting five singles, (Jessica Theriault, Chelsea Nickerson, Kate Campbell, and Katie Patenaude all with two, and Courtney Colligan with three).  Not only did Presque Isle do well offensively, but they held the Eagles to only four runs.  Kayla Richards did a great job catching behind the plate, tagging out a few base runners at home plate to hold the score.  Kaitlyn Martin had an awesome catch in right field.  The Wildcats played a very solid game, with a victory over the very young Limestone team.  The score was 19-5.  Furthermore, even though defense in the field was crucial, base running was very well performed in this game.  Good Luck with the remainder of the season, Wildcats, and keep up the great efforts!
Junior girls softball
On July 2, the Rockhounds and the Mudcats battled it out.  Clair Anderson knocked in the first two runs for the Rockhounds, with a long single to right center.  Also getting hits for the Rockhounds were Kaylin Blood, Katelyn McPherson, Jessica Cameron, Carolyn Brundage and Carly Bell.  Karlee Bernier pitched for the Rockhounds and struck out five and was backed up by a great defense to lead the Rockhounds to a win against the Mudcats.
On Friday, July 6, The Sidewinders battled the Rockhounds in what was the first game of the summer season for the Sidewinders. Kelsey Gilson, Chelsea Munson and Kayla Girardin split the pitching duties for the Sidewinders, while Tori Drost, Jaylee Farley, and Emily Buckley shared catching duties.          Gilson started the hitting streak by earning a single followed by Girardin, Munson, Buckley and Bianca Janey- McGrit. Girardin and Munson connected for outs while defending the field.
But thanks to the big triple by Payton Bourne the Rockhounds regained the lead.  Also pushing runners along the bases was Megan Ireland who had an inside the park grand slam.  Katelyn McPherson and Jessie-Ann Howes also contributed to Rockhound hits.
Megan Ireland also started off a great pitching game as Katelyn McPherson came in for the close and 12-11 victory over the Sidewinders.
Sidewinders player Liza Buck contributed with two singles against the Mudcats on July 9th.  Buck, along with Brooke Lovely combined had five strikeouts for the game.  Madison Michaud played a wonderful game at second base by getting several unassisted outs.  The Mudcats were solid throughout the whole game, defeating the sidewinders by a score of 10-8.
On July 11, the Mudcats played the Rockhounds.  The Mudcats did try their best but were upset with the Rockhounds victory.  Jordi Legassie and Meredith Stewart both got singles.  Brianna Howlett, Morgan Wilcox and Tori Drost all did an excellent job pitching.  All the girls on the Mudcats did awesome and are a hard working team.
Friday, July 13 was not such an unlucky day for the Rockhounds, coached by Shawna Nadeau.  The opponents were the Sidewinders coached by Melissa Demerchant.  The Sidewinders started off strong with two triples from Liza Buck and Chandler Guerette, with Guerette getting the RBI.
Kayla Girardin followed with a strong single, bringing in Guerette.  Kelsey Gilson, Brooke Lovely, and Liza Buck combined to have six strikeouts.  Although the Sidewinders scored 8 runs in the last inning, it wasn’t enough to catch the seven run lead by the Rockhounds.
Presque Isle travel team
On Tuesday, July 10, the Presque Isle Junior girls traveled to Caribou for an afternoon game.  Presque Isle had a very strong defensive team, only letting six runs in, and very few hits.
Karlee Bernier struck out seven batters, while Kelsey Gilson finished the game on the mound, striking out three batters.  Jordan Buckley and Jessica Kailee Shaw had two singles, followed by Emily Buckley with one.
Madison Michaud contributed with several unassisted plays at first base.  Presque Isle defeated Caribou by a score of 13-6.
Other participants were: Megan Ireland, Erin Ackerson, Payton Bourne, Chandler Guerette, Kaleigh Kinney, Claire Anderson, Bianca Janey-McGrit, Ashlyn Dye, Jessica Cameron, Kailen Blood, Jordi Legassie, and Sara Gilson.

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has a new website up and running.  The address is www.pirec.org.          Program information, special events, schedules, and cancellations will be posted and updated as needed.  Changes and cancellations will also be posted on the hotline.
