DANFORTH — The students, faculty and staff at East Grand School took time from classes and gathered around the flagpole on last Tuesday morning for a time of remembrance and reflection of the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy. Everyone participated in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the National Anthem. Christopher Young, Assistant Principal, read the events of 9/11 ending with a moment of silence and reminded the students of the number of East Grand graduates that are now serving in the military. He also read a timeline of events that transpired that horrific day in September six years ago.
Kindergarten teacher Jennifer Gilman held a teddy bear that was given to her by her brother John who was at the World Trade Center when it collapsed. He is an EMT for Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and after Sept. 11 they received bears with the names of EMT’s from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital who died that day listed on the back.
