Vella M. Jewell

Jewell, Vella M., 83, October 21, 2007.  Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.  Interment to be held in the Jewell Cemetery.     Monticello – Vella M. Jewell, 83, passed away peacefully Oct. 21 2007, at a local health care facility. She was born December 29, 1923 at Bridgewater, the daughter of Frederick and Ada (Nichols) Kilcollins.
    Vella graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy and after graduation worked at Dunn Furniture Company, until her marriage to her beloved husband Aliston Jewell. She then worked hand in hand with Al as the bookkeeper for Jewell Brothers until her retirement. Vella was an exceptionally devoted wife and mother and loved her family dearly. She was an amazing cook and was known for her special pies and fruit salad. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf with her many friends. Vella was a member of the Monticello Methodist Church, the Methodist Womens Club and the Houlton Community Golf Club.
    She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Aliston Jewell of Monticello; son, Edward "Buzzy" Jewell and his wife Linda all of Monticello; daughter, Marie Hutchinson and her husband Carl of Littleton; five grandchildren, Jessica and Scott Galbiati of Rumford, Lindsay Jewell of Washington, DC, Lisa Jewell of Portland, Nicole and John Mitchell of Holly Springs, NC, Jasen Hutchinson of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Maxine Brown of Gorham, Joyce Sarrosin of Stuart, FL; two brothers Robert Kilcollins and his wife Shirley of Bridgewater, Paul Kilcollins of Houlton;  and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister Avis and her husband Vaughn Gerow; and a special granddaughter, Darcie Hutchinson.
    Funeral services will be held at the Monticello United Methodist Church 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Naomi Sam’Kpakra officiating. Friends may call at the church 12 noon until time of service. Interment will be in the Jewell Cemetery.
