Number-six Ellsworth returned to the Eastern Maine Class B title match again this year, after defeating number-two Presque Isle, 1-0, in Tuesday’s semifinal. Both Wildcat and Eagle defense kept a low-scoring match, but Ellsworth’s Moritz Bohm kicked the ball past Presque Isle keeper Dillion Kingsbury in overtime. Kingsbury rejected the other two shots.

“They played their hearts out,” said coach Ralph Michaud. “I was proud of how, we’ve pushed ourselves this season and made it to semifinals.” The girls’ varsity, suffered mid-season, from a bout of injuries.
Beavers finish strong
The Washburn girls’ varsity team made the long trip to Bangor for their Wednesday semifinal game against Bangor Christian in a one-goal match in the Patriots’ favor. The Beavers failed to find a way past the Patriot defense with eight shots.
“I thought we handled the trip well. We knew a lot about Catherine Bragg, and Dakota Koch neutralized her really well.”
Beaver keeper Rachel Palmer blocked 10 of 19 shots. The girls finish 10-5-1 with a number-three Heal Point ranking.
“I was pleased with how they finished … they felt like they had put everything out there. There were no should’ve, could’ve, would’ves,” noted coach Ericson.
Ericson will miss his seniors next year. Captain Alex Bird missed the end of the season due to injury, but according to the coach helped lead the team to their ’07 season record.
“Kristen Goupille too, she switched from front line to sweeper without complaint this year.”
