PRESQUE ISLE – Mable Mason Bennett died Oct. 22, 2007, at a local nursing facility. She was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Rockwood, daughter of Harry R. and Annie Dube Mason. She spent her childhood years at Eagle Lake, surrounded by five sisters and one brother. She married the late Arthur M. Bennett, Nov. 9, 1934, at Presque Isle Congregational Church. Mable was known for her beautiful watercolor paintings. Her works were displayed in galleries at the Venice Art Center, the University of Maine – Presque Isle and the Farnsworth Museum, among others. For a period of time, she shared her passion for painting with students who still fondly recall that experience. She spent endless hours painting on river's edge while her beloved husband fished.
She is survived by her son, Allan A. Bennett and his wife, Kathleen; her daughter, Ann B. Wight; grandsons, Arthur Allan Bennett, Richard Eric Bennett and Roland William Wight; granddaughter, Elizabeth Wight Higgins; three great-grandchildren, Izabelle Higgins, and Ryder and Nicholas Wight; sister, Juanita Mason Humphrey; her special niece, Lorna Plourde; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Allan and sisters, Mina, Ethel, Genevra & Gertude. She will be missed by her friends including a dear friend, Eric Smith.
Friends were invited to gather at a memorial service held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Presque Isle Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
