PRESQUE ISLE – The Presque Isle Historical Society, along with several other area organizations, are hoping the holiday shopping spirit will be alive and well at the Aroostook Centre Mall Nov. 11, as the mall opens for a special VIP event from 5 to 8 p.m., with proceeds going to benefit various groups and organizations. “On Sunday, Nov. 11, the Aroostook Centre Mall will open for a special shopping event from 5 to 8 p.m., the Holiday VIP Evening of Giving & Savings,” said Kimberly Smith, Historical Society treasurer.
Normally closed by 5 p.m. on Sundays, Hall said VIP shoppers will enjoy a private mall-wide sale, with additional discounts offered, special sales and incentives.
“To be admitted to this private sale, you may purchase a $3 VIP shopping ticket from the Historical Society. All proceeds from the sales of the tickets stay with the Society,” said Hall.
Hall added that shoppers with VIP tickets will also enjoy special prizes and surprises during the festivities. To purchase tickets from the Historical Society, contact 764-4816.
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society is another organization using the event as a fund-raiser.
“All the money will be used for improvements and operating costs at the Hall,” explained Deana McHatten, as she made her rounds recently selling tickets.
Mall Manager Patti Crooks is pleased to be a part of such a community-oriented evening.
“Over 35 Aroostook County non-profits, charities, churches and civic organizations are benefiting from the special sales event on Sunday, Veteran’s Day, at the Aroostook Centre Mall. The second annual VIP Evening of Giving & Savings is open to ticket holders only. Tickets will be available through participating organizations or at the door,” said Crooks, noting tickets sold at the door Nov. 11 will benefit the American Red Cross.
Musical entertainment will include the Don Campbell Veteran’s Day Concert. Campbell, a Maine singer and songwriter, will be performing songs from his latest CD, including “Red, White & Blue Heart.”
Crooks said the event was a good deal for all involved.
“The annual VIP event is an opportunity to support your favorite local charity and at the same time enjoy an evening of shopping and savings,” said Crooks. “It’s a win-win deal for all.”
In addition to the Historical Society and Grange Hall, other organizations benefiting from the special night of sales, through the sale of VIP tickets, include: AAWAG, American Legion, Aroostook RSVP, Caribou Chamber of Commerce, Caribou High School Class of 2010, Caribou Parks & Recreation, Central Aroostook Humane Society, Cub Scout Pack 162, Daughters of Isabella, DAV Auxiliaries, Friends of Aroostook National Wildlife Reserve, G.I.F.T., Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands for Children & Families, Historical Society – Greater Grand Isle, Houlton Humane Society, James School Corp., Knights of Columbus 1870 and 2524, Limestone/Caswell Historical Society, Mapleton Baptist Church Youth Group, SAD 1Music Boosters, Northern Lighthouse, Presque Isle Elks Lodge, Presque Isle Recreation Center, Presque Isle Volunteer Fire Department, PIHS Project Graduation, St. Mary’s Youth Ministry, Student Organization of Social Work, Washburn District High School Cheering Squad, Quest Center – children’s class.
