CUMBERLAND and YARMOUTH – Bernardine Maday Grant, 79, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. Bernie was born on April 25, 1928, in Nanticoke, Penn. the daughter of Louis and Bertha Maday.
    She was a graduate of Lodi High School and Holy Name School of Nursing, Teaneck, N.J. She was an Army nurse at Camp Atterbury, Ind.  It was there that she met her husband Harold.  She and Harold made their home in Cumberland and Houlton. A few years after Harold died, she moved to Yarmouth, Maine where she lived for over 30 years.
    Bernie worked in the social service field with children for many years, first at the Roger Randall Center in Houlton and then at the Infant Development Center in South Portland.  After her retirement, Bernie enjoyed being involved with the Christmas fair at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth, quilting, gardening, aerobics and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
    Bernie was predeceased by her husband, Harold Cram Grant on December 10, 1969.  She was also predeceased by one sister, Sylvia Hastings.  She is survived by her two children and four grandchildren: Elizabeth King and her husband Gary and their three children, Hannah, Lisa and Tyler of Cumberland; Mark Grant and his wife Barbara and their daughter Libby of South Portland; two brothers, Raymond and his wife Adele of   Saugerties, N.Y., Louis and his wife Judy of  Montvale, N.J.; a sister, Mary Vozeh of  Whiting, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Davison of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.  She will be missed by them all.
    A huge thank you to the staff at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth,  especially those who worked in the Millay House and to Beacon Hospice for all their care and support over the last six months.
    Visiting hours were held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007, at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main Street, Yarmouth with Reverend Joseph Ford as celebrant. Private interment will be held at a later date in Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of sending flowers the family requests that donations be made to Beacon Hospice, 54 Atlantic Place, South Portland, ME 04106.
