PRESQUE ISLE – The Wildcats attacked the defensive line of Cape Elizabeth last Saturday to keep the puck on their half of the ice and headed toward the net.
PIHS plowed back the Capers, 9-0.
“It was nice to see some killer instinct,” commented head coach Carl Flynn after the win.
The blue athletes took possession of their rink early, outshooting their opponents and putting in five goals in the first period. Brennen Shaw slapped in two pucks for the Wildcats. Greg Cyr, Matt Talbot and Dylan Collins each scored one goal.
In the second period, PIHS again went on the offensive prowl for another three to their score. Brandon Daigle worked the puck past Cape Elizabeth twice, and Collins shot through another.
Daigle affirmed PI prominence with the last goal in the third period. Steve Ford, Josh Buck, Parker Hovey, Shaw, Cyr, Collins and Daigle all had assists. Ethan Hill blocked in the Presque Isle net through the first two periods, and freshman Josh MacFarline took over for the final period. The pair turned away 34 shots.
Last Friday, the Wildcats had an early lead against Greely High School at the Forum.
However, Greely shot back to the top and took the victory, 4-2.
Scoring was all in the PIHS column in the first period with goals from Shaw and Zac Campbell. Jason Martin, Steve Ford and Shaw had assists. When Greely answered back, Presque Isle couldn’t find another gap in their opponent’s defense.
PIHS hockey is next in action on Friday at Windale at 6:10 p.m, and Saturday at Camden Hills at 7 p.m.
