Sir Thomas the Great, the older male cat, has found a home. There was much rejoicing at CPR and many phone calls to let the workers know that Sir Thomas is now loved. We all get really excited when one of Caribou Pet Rescue’s older animals finds that a home.

Our young Lab/Dalmatian, Rex, needs puppy chow as he was so thin when he came in that you almost couldn’t see him. Rex is a joy, but we should have named him Mr. Happiness. He wags his tail so hard with happiness for any attention to come his way that he has split it against the cement wall and we need to keep it wrapped for his own protection. Please come take him for a walk. He really loves to stretch those long legs. Rex is very good with youngsters and would make a great happy family dog.

The older animals have a special place in our hearts because they are facing serious changes due to no fault of their own; perhaps their owner has died and they are grieving; perhaps the owner had to move where pets are not allowed; the owners may even have become homeless. Sometimes we find an older pet who has obviously lived a lifetime of abuse and neglect and yet it is still so sweet, and trusting. How can we not make these darling pets special and strive even harder to find the right home for them.
Do you remember the CPR photo last week with Emerson sitting in front of my computer looking at himself in the screen saver picture as he sat on top of my computer. Emerson knows he is special. The minute he hears the first click-clack of my computer keyboard, that little monkey comes running to get one of his favorite spots either on top of the computer or by the side of it to watch the screen. Soon 5 or 6 other feline sweethearts will come running in searching for their best spot. Emerson leaves this weekend and we will miss him. We always miss them.
Ev and I are continually amazed at how these foster cats fit right in with our feline crowd.  There is never an argument or a fight. Each of my older cats is well trained in giving “the look.”  Every cat (foster or ours) in the house knows “the look” especially if it comes from Charity.  It’s that same “the look” that I give my husband when he messes up. Like when I complain that he didn’t do a good job washing the silverware and he looks so shocked and asks “What do you mean, I didn’t wash it good enough.”  I simply give him “the look” while holding up a fork with dried egg yolk in between the tines. No more questions. Problem solved. Charity gives that same “look” each time we introduce a new foster cat. Once a foster cat has spent 48 hours in this house, she/he have mastered the rules, the protocol of who goes to the food dish first and especially which litter box belongs to Charity.
These older pets are wonderful additions to family life. They are clean, well-mannered and so appreciative. CPR employees know these beauties well and can very closely match feline to human personality. CPR still has several nice older cats at the shelter. They have been leukemia tested, spayed/neutered, freed of parasites and had shots updated. Approximately $130.00 worth of medical care done per cat and we will only charge you $25.00 until March 31, in recognition of our 2nd full year of operation (the senior discount is not included in this offer). The majority of these adult cats are between 1 year to 3 or 4 years of age.
Right now we have a need for Purina Puppy Chow and Dog Chow. Our dog population has increased greatly. Our young Lab/Dalmatian, Rex, needs puppy chow as he was so thin you almost couldn’t see him. Rex is a joy, but we should have named him Mr. Happiness. Please come take him for a walk. He really needs to stretch those long legs. He wags his tail so hard with happiness for attention that he has split it against the cement wall and we need to keep it wrapped.
