Firemen went beyond call of duty

To the editor:
Last Wednesday our family encountered something that no one wants to have happen to them, a fire in our home. The purpose of this letter to the editor is to let the community know that they are in good hands with the men of the Caribou Fire Department. The response time and the number of men that responded to the scene were astronomical as most of these men are volunteers.     Being part of a community service team can sometimes be a thankless job. Having said that, we want to ensure that we give a heartfelt “thank you” to those men who responded to the fire. Capt Sperrey’s leadership to his men is evident. They concentrated on the source of the fire and did not just go in and blast the home with water. They were courteous and caring of the surrounding they were in.
When you own a home for 33 years there are many things that are precious to you. One of those things is photos that can never be replaced. Once the fire was under control, they took the time to place all of the photos in a dry safe place. These men went over and above what is normally expected. In addition, these firemen cleaned up the bulk of the debris to lessen the initial shock of walking into our home to the disaster.
Again, thank you for being so kind, courteous and caring.

P.S. To the fireman who was concerned about George’s other boot, we found it.
