Annually in Maine an estimated 1400 babies are born prematurely. About one in every eight newborns is affected.     Nationwide about a half-million babies will be born too early this year alone. Some will be fine, some will live with a lifetime of health issues and some will become victims of their premature births.
The March of Dimes fund research to find the causes of and treatments for those born too soon.
Fund-raising in “The County” is underway, with the March of Dimes “March for Babies” fund-raising event scheduled for Sunday, May 18, in Presque Isle at the University of Maine Campus Center.  Registration for the walk is at 10 a.m. and a five-mile walk to “kick-off” will begin at 11 a.m.
Please support a March of Dimes participant when asked, or go to: modimes.org, to arrange do donate a gift online.
Citizens are asked to consider giving generously to the March of Dimes’ important research. One never knows when a premature baby may arrive in your family.
Opportunities abound in our area for individuals and businesses to contribute to this year’s March of Dimes fund-raising campaign. If anyone would care to learn more or have any questions concerning the “March for Babies,” they may contact Debbie Barnes, member of the Central Aroostook Steering Committee for the March of Dimes, at 498-8726.
