Two points ends Tigers’ season

High school ball winds down

    Southern Aroostook just tipped Fort Fairfield in last Thursday’s quarterfinal at Dyer Brook.
    The Tigers brought two runners home in the final inning, but couldn’t break the Warriors’ lead, 7-5.

    Austin Dufour hit two singles and two RBIs for FFHS. Ian Towle added an RBI single.
    Tiger baseball held Wisdom to only one run to move on to Class D quarterfinals in their preliminary on June 10, 7-1.
    Towle struck out 13 from the mound, and doubled twice for Fort Fairfield. Josh Booth and Cody Closson each had an RBI double while Dufour hit a triple.
    The number-nine Tigers upset the number-eight Panthers in the June 10 preliminary securing their spot in the Class D softball quarterfinals, 17-16.
    Brittany Pelkey scored the game-deciding run for FFHS.
    Sarah Hebert singled twice and hit two RBIs, and Courtney Churchill hit one double and one single with an RBI for the Tigers. Katie Godin added two singles.
    Senior Sarah Long tripled three times and singled with five RBIs in the Central Aroostook effort.
    Alex Dame hit two singles, one double and two RBIs. Brianna Hartin pelted two singles and three RBIs while Robyn Graham doubled and singled for CAHS.
PIHS ends on the road
    The future looked bright three innings into Presque Isle’s Class B preliminary at John Bapst on June 10.
    The Wildcats had a two-run lead, 6-4, with an eye to end the game and move on to quarterfinals.
    However, the Crusaders’ pitcher kept PIHS scoreless in the second-half while their batters made up the difference and took the win, 8-6.
    Allisen Donovan slammed a double and tagged home twice for Presque Isle. Jodie Buckley singled and hit two RBIs.
Hodgdon rallies over Washburn
    Washburn swung for an early-game lead over Hodgdon in their preliminary softball game on June 10.
    However, the Hawks crept back in the final three innings to end the Beavers’ season, 19-16.
    Rachel Palmer captained Washburn’s offensive effort with three singles and two RBIs. Rebecca Campbell singled twice and had an RBI while Kristen Goupille hit two singles.
