As part of Student Safety Month, the Teen Advisory Group at the Caribou Public Library recently discussed various safety tips relevant to teens in today’s world.     According to the group, today’s teens face challenges in the areas of Internet, drugs , alcohol and relationship safety as well as fire and fun safety. The following suggestions, regarding these safety issues, are something the library teen advisory members wish to share with their peers.
Young adults are reminded to never post your full name, address, phone number or the school you attend anywhere on the Internet. Be aware that predators can and will take any personal information you place online, enabling them to find out just about everything about you.
Regarding relationships teens are advised not to become so involved with a boyfriend or girlfriend that you forget about other friends. Don’t forget you might find yourself in a situation where you really need other friends, especially if the relationship ends.
Regarding firearm safety, remind everyone to always transport a legal firearm with the safety on. Always keep guns clean and never point a gun at anyone, even with the safety on.
The next meeting of the Teen Advisory Group is on July 3 at noon. For more information, call Mona Martin at 493-4212 or e-mail at momartin@caribou-public.lib.me.us.
