HOULTON — For just over 40 years, Horten Building Supplies has been meeting area building needs with a strong focus on customer service.
“Customer service is very important to us. We try our best to greet customers at the counter, help them find what they need, load their vehicle and get them on their way,” said owner Kent Horten. “A happy customer is a repeat customer.”
At Horten’s Military Street site, customers can pick up a variety of building products — everything from the foundation to the chimney. Among their products are; engineered wood beams and joists, framing lumber, treated lumber, composite decking, drywall, cabinets, interior and exterior doors, windows, mouldings and, as well as, plumbing, electrical and general hardware supplies.
“We aren’t a big box store and we don’t have the assets to carry a huge inventory,” explained Horten. “But if our customers plan their work and work their plan, Horten Building Supplies can have the products they need in a matter of days.”
Horten Building Supplies has eight employees. Owner Kent Horten credits their competitive pricing and his crew to helping the business prosper.
“Having an energetic, personable and knowledgeable staff helps us stay in business,” said Horten. “The employees have made Horten Building Supplies grow.”
Kevin McGary, Travis Beaton, Brad Butler, Ray Ivey, Donny McGary and Micah Carton are the sales, yard and delivery people. Christina Desiderio and Peggy Longstaff are bookkeeping personnel. Micah Carton, who also worked at Horten’s, has left to attend the University of Fort Kent. (Good luck, Micah!)
