LITTLETON — Summertime is vacation and travel time for many in Aroostook County. It can also be a stressful time if you are a pet owner and have no willing family or friends to take care of your dog or cat while you are away.
Worry no longer. Kate and David Pyle have opened Lucky Dog Boarding House on their 60-acre farm on the Front Ridge Road, a 10-minute drive from U.S. Route 1 and I-95 in Houlton.
The Pyles offer cageless dog boarding service, whether it’s just overnight or for a weekly, monthly or extended stay. In other words, they’re flexible.
“I am not a kennel. I provide a home-like environment that has proven to reduce most of the stress that is found in a traditional kennel setting. Happy dogs make for happy owners. All of my dog boarders can hardly wait to get out of the car and into my house. That makes the pet owners feel great about leaving their dogs at the Lucky Dog House,” said Kate Pyle, who has 30 years’ experience in the animal care profession.
“I have the skills and abilities to manage dogs with special needs and/or special diets. We offer lots of personal attention and a nice fenced yard for play. All dogs need to be socialized, non dog aggressive and up to date on their vaccinations,” she said.
Lucky Dog has flexible hours to meet the individual needs of pet owners. “Customer service is my number-one priority as it should be in any business. If my customers need to leave very early or pick up their animals late, they can. That’s why I do not have 9 to 5 hours. If your customer is not happy, he or she will not be back,” Pyle said.
"In the future we plan to offer dog training and horse boarding in our new 7-stall barn with a small indoor arena suitable for dog- and horse-related activities. Ten percent of the proceeds from the Lucky Dog House go to support local charitable organizations and of course the Houlton Animal Shelter,” Pyle added.
