The Houlton High Alumni Band didn’t miss a beat as they entertained at the Jan. 10, Houlton vs. Lee Academy boys basketball game. Fans were treated to an exciting performance at pre-game and halftime, with nearly 40 musicians that tuned up their instruments in order to participate. The band generated a great amount of enthusiasm from the crowd, and enjoyed playing some of their favorite selections from their high school days. It was hard to believe they had just one hour of practice before the game.
The most experienced alumni were, David Flemington, ‘51 and Mike Clark,’54. Bethany Targonski ‘08, traveled from college in Rhode Island, for the longest distance. The Family Award went to the Putnam and Sewell family. Chris, Kerry and Sarah Putnam were matched in numbers with Jill (Hutchinson) Sewell and daughters, Franny and Lizz.

HHS ALUMNI BAND — The HHS Alumni Band under the direction of Joe Fagnant fell right back into the groove, as they played several familiar tunes. The band members jazzed the crowd with their signature school song among others.
The Alumni Band had a variety of classes represented, with the greatest response in percentage returning from the class of 2008 followed closely by 2007.
As part of the halftime festivities, Nancy Ketch, president of the Houlton Alumni Association thanked the band and all the alumni for their continued commitment and dedication.
Ketch presented a check for $25,000 to Joe Fagnant, president of the Houlton Community Arts Center Council as a donation for the fine arts wing expansion project.
The SAD 29 Music Boosters under the direction of Peggy McGary and her crew of volunteers provided dinner for the band participants prior to the game.
