Special to The Star-Herald
NEW YORK CITY – On Nov. 13, 30 students from the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technology Center left early in the morning for a three-day tour of New York City.
The trip was sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America Club, and the tour group was Junior Tours.
The first day we shopped on 5th Avenue, toured St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Museum of Natural History, had dinner in the city, did some souvenir shopping and then went to the top of the Empire State Building.
Our tour guide, Paula, had us up and on the move early Friday morning. We toured the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and got to go down into the vault that houses the world’s largest supply of gold. We then toured Federal Hall and took a walking tour of the financial district, seeing all three stock exchanges, Ground Zero, Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel.
That afternoon we went to the Intrepid Museum (three days after President Bush made his speech there on Veterans Day). It was then dinner at Planet Hollywood followed by the choice of attending either “In the Heights” or “Lion King” on Broadway.
Our last day we experienced a bit of a downpour on our trip through Battery Park and our boat ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was a brief downpour, however, and as we departed Ellis Island, the sun was out and we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in “Little Italy” and “Chinatown.”
The group would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our chaperones: Andrea Pinette, Mike Graves, Laurie and Bruce Buck, Amy White, and Beth Curtis.

WHILE ON A RECENT three-day tour of New York City, students from the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technology Center posed with this statue of George Washington in front of Federal Hall on Wall Street. Federal Hall is where Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States. Now a museum, Federal Hall was home to the first Congress, Supreme Court and Executive Branch of the government when New York City was the nation’s capitol. The trip was sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America Club.
