Darrell McCrum of Mars Hill and Fred Whited of Robinson will be competing in the 2009 Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race from March 14-21 in Labrador City, Canada. It is Canada’s longest snowmobile endurance race.

Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race brings extreme sports to a whole new level. The Challenge? About 2300 kilometers of back country racing through Labrador’s remote wilderness. McCrum and Whited, as Team 2, will travel from Labrador City to Churchill Falls, Makkovik, Postville, Rigolet, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and back to Labrador City via Churchill Falls.
Teams of two riders compete day and night guided by GPS and driven by determination and will. Sub-zero temperatures, unpredictable weather, mechanical failures and rugged terrain are all part of the package.
Cain’s Quest racers give it their all for a shot at their share of a total purse of $62,000 in cash and the chance to challenge the legend and become the next extreme snowmobiling champion.
According to the race Web site (www.cainsquest.com), the name Cain’s Quest represents the adventure the race promises to be and captures the essence of the land that hosts it. Following the story of one of Jacques Cartier’s famous expeditions to North America, Cain’s Quest came from a reference that Cartier made to the harsh landscape. He referred to the coast of Labrador as “The land God gave to Cain.” From this story and the vision of the race, Cain’s Quest was born.
McCrum and Whited will be leaving on March 11 to start their adventure.
