Fun through volunteerism

LIMESTONE — Though volunteering for hundreds of community service hours may sound daunting, the Girl Scouts of Limestone and Caswell have enjoyed putting the hours in since 1997.

"The girls can take any moment and have a good time,” explained Troop Leader Laura St. Pierre. “Not only are they learning something, but they're having fun at what they're doing. It's a lot of work, but they're having fun at it,” she added.
The troop has volunteered for a wide variety of events ranging from the lighting of the town Christmas tree to stuffing envelopes for the Chamber of Commerce.
Now juniors in high school, two troop members remain from the original troop.
“It's been a joy to watch them grow and mature into the young ladies that they are now,” explained St. Pierre. “Their self-esteem and confidence has improved since they started, and they’ve also lost some of their shyness,” she added. “They know that they have the ability to achieve their goals.”
The troop just finished up their annual cookie sales, which went well this year. According to St.Pierre, cookies will be arriving on March 7.
