Time to take back control

To the editor:
American citizens, if you cherish your freedom and your liberty, wake up! Please! Let’s get off our duffs and get involved! For far too many years we have been silenced by political correctness and have consequently allowed our elected officials to get completely out of control.
With all our county’s problems, I still get up each day and thank God we live in the U.S.A. I love freedom and liberty and I don’t want a group of Washington bureaucrats who believe that they know what’s best for us and also believe that we are their subjects! Let’s be clear and honest, Congress’ track record clearly proves otherwise!
The most recent examples lie in the stimulus or otherwise known as the porkulus bill recently passed by Congress without reading it. Would you sign a contract without reading it.? Sens. Snowe and Collins totally ignored the wishes of their constituents and voted for the bill when they could have stopped it from happening!
In addition, Congress just passed an appropriations bill with approximately nine thousand earmarks or otherwise known as pork projects. Is this the kind of change our new President was talking about when he promised that there will be no more earmarks? I don’t know about you, but we’re trying to survive by cutting spending everywhere we can and I get a little frustrated when I hear the president tell us that we have to sacrifice while Congress goes on its merry way spending like there’s no tomorrow just so that they can get reelected again. What’s wrong with this picture?
Now some of our politicians in Washington have decided that they would like to silence conservative talk radio through the “Fairness Doctrine’ or by some other means. As you can probably deduce, I am not a liberal however both liberals and conservatives should be allowed free speech and should also be allowed the same access to know what these politicians are doing. Unfortunately most of the major news media censors much news that would prove to be unfavorable to liberal politicians. Talk radio and the Internet sources are the only places where we can access all the news and have uneditorialized free speech.
President Kennedy one said “The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.” We can’t hold politicians accountable if we don’t know what they’re up to.
Your political beliefs or persuasion matters not as there are wonderful people on both sides of the spectrum. What matters is that our freedom and our liberty are on the line now! Please take the time to get involved. We can’t continue to leave it to the other guy!. Take the time to contact congress and express your point of view! It’s an easy process and it’s free if you have a computer and internet access. Visit www.contactcongress.com follow their instructions and you’ve done your job. Then it’s up to our representative and senators to do theirs — represent you!
Please remember all those who gave their lives and sustained injuries just to protect our freedom. How tragic it would be if we gave our freedom away because we were just too busy or perhaps too lazy to get involved.
