Rochester, NH – Charlie Irving, 83, of Reagan Drive died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the Rochester Manor after a brief illness. Born February 24, 1926, in Salisbury, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Julia (Eaton) Irving. In his youth, he lived in the Exeter, NH area.
Mr. Irving has lived in Rochester for nearly three years. He also lived in Ocala, FL, Hodgdon, ME and Plainville, CT. He enjoyed outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, especially in the White Mountains. He was particularly fond of fishing for blue fish as well. He was very proud of the fact he worked in the lumber camps of northern New Hampshire and Maine, as a young man. He was an avid reader. He was a Master Mason in the Plainville, CT Lodge of Masons and active in the Methodist Church in Hodgdon, ME. Mr. Irving was a Letter Carrier in Plainville and Granby, CT; retiring from the Postal Service after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diana (Bates) Irving of Rochester, NH; his sons, Tom Irving and his wife, Maggie of Windsor, CT, Shaun Irving and his wife Jennifer of Winthrop, MA and Scott Whitaker and his wife Lynn of Torrington, CT, his grandchildren; Heather and Nicholas Irving both of Plainville CT; his nephews, Bill Wilbur of Conway, NH and Dusty Wilbur of Farmington, NH. He had several other nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother Edward and his sisters, Mary and Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Rd, Dover, NH 03820. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.
