Miller, Helen Gertrude, a/k/a Helen G. Miller, a/k/a Helen Briggs Miller of North Hill, Needham, MA died March 5, 2009 at the magnificent age of 100 years and 18 days. Mrs. Miller was born in Caribou, Maine on February 15, 1909, where she attended the local schools. She was the daughter of the late Ezra James Briggs and Sarah Washburn Briggs. She graduated from Lesley College (now Lesley University) and received her Master's Degree from Boston University. She was a career teacher of young children having taught in : Port Jernier, New York: Los Angeles, California: Machias and Augusta, Maine: Glen Ridge, New Jersey: and Newton and Brookline, Massachusetts. Mrs. Miller was an active member of the Union Church in Waban, MA and three terms president of the Compass Club of Newton, MA. Mrs. Miller was an enthusiastic lifelong Red Sox fan. She was married to Elvan A. Miller who preceded her death by many years.
Helen is survived by two nephews, E.J. (Jim) Briggs III of Utah and Ward Briggs of Colorado.
Interment will be in the Briggs Lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou, Maine. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the North Hill Life Care Retirement Community, 865 Central Ave., Needham, MA, with former Union Church Minister, Paul E. Barnes, in attendance. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to Lesley University, 29 Everett St., Cambridge, MA 02138.
