
WHEREAS the City of Caribou is celebrating its 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration April 5, 2009; and
WHEREAS Caribou was founded by hardworking, resilient, and productive individualists bound by faith and family; and
WHEREAS Caribou, originating from the Eaton Grant, was founded on the Aroostook River which served as the main road into the rugged wilderness of Aroostook; and
WHEREAS Caribou’s entrepreneurial spirit was founded on an extractive economy based on the bounty of our natural resources such as timber and farming; and
WHEREAS these important historical contributions to local commerce helped to build and sustain the community; and
WHEREAS today this same spirit can be found as forward thinking entrepreneurs employ technology to enhance the options of our resource-based economy to more effectively meet our future challenges; and
WHEREAS with over 8,000 residents, Caribou embraces a diverse community and invites people from around the globe to work, learn and grow in the City of Caribou; and
WHEREAS the City Council and citizens of Caribou greatly appreciate the ongoing commitment of the 150th Committee members, business sponsors and community members who dedicated their time and efforts to bring us this celebration honoring Caribou’s 150th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the City Council of the City of Caribou hereby designates Sunday, April 5, 2009, as Caribou’s 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary and invites the community to participate in a historical celebration throughout 2009 thereby honoring this day in history.
