Verna MacArthur celebrated her 90th birthday over the Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. On Saturday, May 23, MacArthur enjoyed a luncheon with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at Craig’s Maine Menu Restaurant at VaJoWa golf course in Island Falls.
Those in attendance were her six children and their spouses: Norm and Barbara, Ed and Judie, Dwight and Barbara, Dwayne and Sandy, Barry and Ava and Karen and Kerry McNally; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michael and Melanie MacArthur, Sarah and Erin Bailey; Kevin MacArthur; Kelly and Chris Johnson; Jenn MacArthur and Brayden Riley; Scot, Erin and Mason MacArthur; Jason, Jennie, Clay and Kobe MacArthur; Alisa, Marc, Daniel and Rose Arnst; Jeremy MacArthur; James, Alicia, John and Emma McNally; Garth McNally and Amy Malikowski; and Carrie, Adam, Melody and Alex Curtis.
On Sunday, MacArthur and her family attended the morning Worship service at United Baptist Church in Island Falls. Pastor Ben Green noted MacArthur’s special birthday.  Special music was sung by Kelly MacArthur Johnson, Winnie White Desmond, Verna White Jones, Patti Desmond Hartin and Jane Sewell, accompanied by Barbara Sewell Martin. MacArthur was extremely happy to have her nieces and cousins sing for the occasion and she thanks Pastor Ben and the girls very much.
Later that afternoon an open house, hosted by MacArthur’s family, was held in the vestry of the United Baptist Church. More than 200 guests were greeted by MacArthur’s children and their spouses. Her beautiful birthday cake was made by Ruth Frazier and was served by her grandchildren and their families.  Coffee, tea and punch were also served.
A sentiment from Maine’s 124th legislature was read and presented to MacArthur by Representative Henry Joy.
MacArthur and her family want to thank everyone for all of their planning, contributions, beautiful decorations, party favors, flower arrangements, special DVD and for visiting and sharing her special weekend with her.  Her whole family spent many hours planning and organizing and the entire weekend was filled with wonderful excitement.
