Help Avenue of Flags become reality
To the editor:
The Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Committee is trying to raise funds for an Avenue of Flags. This has been requested by many visitors to the cemetery. All of the veteran units are being asked to participate in this project.
Presque Isle’s American Legion Post No. 88 has asked, by memorandum, all members to help by donating $10 or any amount that they can afford.
A visitor at the January meeting thought this was a worthwhile project and started it off by donating her 50/50 winnings. This prompted me to write this letter asking for the support of the public.
I am a member of the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Committee and the finance office for the American Legion Post 88. Any donations received would be processed through Post 88’s financial account and reported in my monthly financial report to the membership.
The cost of the flag poles are $1,500 each and the goal of the committee is to have 30 poles, 15 on each side of the sidewalk. The Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Committee held a buffalo supper and sold tickets for $10 each. People seemed enthused to support this project and enough was made to purchase three flag poles.
I hope you will also be in favor of going forward with this project and will send a donation of any amount you can afford. I thank you in advance for your donation. Please send it to the American Legion Post 88, PO Box 83, Presque Isle, Maine 04769.
