Track and field season ends for PI

WINDHAM – The Presque Isle Wildcats competed in Saturday’s State Class B Track and Field Championships, with none of the athletes able to finish among the top seven in their respective events.
As a result, the Wildcats were shut out in the overall point standings. Falmouth was the boys champion with 104 points. Greely was second with 76.5 and Waterville third with 57.5.
Waterville won the girls meet with 168 points, followed by York in second with 94 and Greely of Cumberland in third with 54.33.
Presque Isle’s top performer at the state meet was junior Josh Allen, who was ninth in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches and tied for ninth in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet.
Other PI boys results included: junior Justin Good, 15th in the javelin, 130 feet, 3 inches; junior Stephen Goulet, 16th in the discus, 103 feet, 11 inches; junior Brandon Gibson, 19th in the discus, 97 feet, 2 inches; and 24th in the javelin, 111 feet, 2 inches; junior Zach Lunney, 24th in the shot put, 36 feet, 5 inches; sophomore Logan Good, 27th in the 100-meter dash, 12.15 seconds; and sophomore Ben Sipe, 28th in the 100-meter dash, 12.19 seconds.
Also, the 4 X 100 relay team of Justin Good, sophomore Tyler Grant, Sipe and Logan Good placed 19th in 55.04 seconds.
For the Wildcat girls, leading the way was junior Victoria Winslow, 21st in the javelin, 67 feet, 4 inches; freshman Meredith Stewart, 22nd in the shot put, 26 feet, 11 inches; and freshman Samantha Simonds, 23rd in the 100-meter dash, 14.26 seconds.
The Class C state meet, which was scheduled for Saturday at Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, was postponed due to the rainy weather. Fort Fairfield has athletes scheduled to compete in that competition, which now will be held today beginning at 2 p.m.
