The time of the leisure suit may be far behind us, but some classic pieces have been in style since the ‘70s.

This Sleeper’s ad was taken right out of the June 14th issue of the Aroostook Republican from 1972. Dad may still be sporting the Converse sneakers and Hanes T-shirts, but the polyester double knit pants probably aren’t high on his wish-list.
The ad below is from the June 14 issue of the Aroostook Republican back in 1972, and while the line for a pair of polyester pants is short (to say the least), other father-approved items from the ‘70s have kept with the times.
Converse sneakers and Hanes T-shirts could easily be found in the closets of any given five-year-old to fifty-year-old; there will quite possibly always be a wardrobe niche for a pair of Chuck Taylors and a plain white T.
Levi pants have also stayed in style, but times have changed the cut, style and finish of the jeans — if dad is still sporting stonewash denim, it might be time for a new pair of pants.
According to Joe Sleeper, co-owner of Sleeper’s in Caribou, timeless gifts for dad would include a pair of Levi’s, Carolina work boots, a pair of Nike sneakers and a Northface softshell jacket.
