Barbara Smith of Woodland, whose late husband Darrel’s death remains an unsolved homicide is again reminding area residents that the Darrel F. Smith Public Reward, created in hopes of bringing forth information regarding her husband’s death, currently stands at $14,587.30. Smith was discovered dead at his sawmill on the Thomas Road in Woodland, by his wife on Feb. 6, 2008. Smith would have turned 57 on Feb. 10, 2008.
This reward money, coupled with Mrs. Smith’s reward of $40,000 total $54,587.30. The sum will be given to anyone who supplies information regarding the homicide to investigating officers, resulting in the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the local man’s death.
“With all of the homicides happening in the County and everywhere else, we (Smith’s family) thought this would be a good time to remind the public not to forget about Darrel‘s murder, which occurred right here in Woodland — and that still remains unsolved,” said Smith.
“With all of the rumors and stories circulating around the community, someone must have pertinent information that could help move this case forward,” stated Smith’s widow. “Even if someone has information and they don’t think it is important, please, do not hesitate to contact the Maine State Police at 1-800-924-2261 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-638-TPS,” she added.
Any information reported regarding this homicide will be researched by the Maine State Police detectives, in hopes of solving the death of Darrel Smith.
The Darrell Smith Public Reward Fund, Inc. provides a chance for private citizens or organizations to donate to a reward fund. All amounts donated are secured in an account at the Aroostook County Federal Savings and Loan Association in Caribou. If the reward money is not needed, all donations will be refunded.
As with the $40,000 reward, (established by the Smith family), this public reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this murder. This is a non-profit corporation and donations are tax deductible.
Donations to the public reward fund may be mailed to Aroostook County Federal Savings and Loan Association, P.O. Box 808. Caribou, Me. 04736.
