County’s Probus Club holds meeting
PRESQUE ISLE — Probus Club of Central Aroostook met for their monthly meeting on Thursday, July 15, at NMCC. Frank Baker, vice president, presided over the meeting. Pearl Carmichael gave an entertaining reading entitled “Encountering the Old Stranger In The Mirror.”
Mel Fitzherbert announced that the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging has relocated to their new office on Edgemont Drive. They held an open house on July 15.
Mel introduced Nancy Chandler who gave a very interesting slide presentation about the Caribou Children’s Discovery Museum. She explained that this enterprise is an ongoing fund-raising effort to buy a building in downtown Caribou to house the museum. She explained that following the purchase of the building they will be able to apply to foundations for the structures that will be built to specifications designated by Discovery Museum regulations.
Chandler spoke about all of the fund-raising events that have been planned for the coming months. The museum hopes to attract not only local participation but to encourage people from outside the area who come to visit the county to make this an important part of their vacation.
The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. The Nominating Committee announced that the following officers have been selected for the coming year, beginning in August: President Karen Sweeney, Vice President Helen McConnell; Secretary Meta Giggey; Treasurer Gerry Gallagher, and Program Director Mel Fitzherbert.
Dues are due in August.
