Star City Seniors meet for luncheons
The Star City Seniors met July 29 at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church on Fleetwood St.
There were 21 members and one guest, Iva Tardie, granddaughter of Marilyn Tardie of Mapleton.
President Donna Devoe welcomed all members and the guest to the club.
The club enjoyed pizzas, salads and desserts for lunch.
After the lunch, the meeting was opened with a prayer and flag salute. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
The present secretary has resigned due to health problems. A new secretary was elected temporarily, until the election of officers in November.
The Northern Maine Council on Aging of Presque Isle held their annual picnic at Mantle Lake Park on July 12. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, desserts and watermelon were provided, also coffee and soda drinks. Music was provided by Robert Craig, Donald Devoe, Bob Long and Clarence Devoe. Everyone had a good time.
The next N.M.C.A. meeting will be Sept. 20 in Mars Hill on the West Ridge Road. Meeting will begin with registration from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., meeting at 10:30 a.m. and lunch at 12 p.m. More information will be provided as time nears.
Next meeting at Presque Isle will be an auction.
Birthdays for August include Marion Allen, Peggy Tuttle, Anita Cote and Donna Devoe. Augusta anniversary is Barbara and Phil Buchanan.
The Star City Seniors met Aug. 12 at the Methodist Church on Fleetwood St. for their regular meeting and potluck luncheon. There were 26 members and two guests. Ryan Lavway of Castle Hill was a guest of his grandmother, Dorothy Lavway and Winnie Barnes was a guest of Granville Lamb.

After lunch, Donna opened the meeting with prayer, flag salute and one verse of “America.” The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given and accepted by the members as read.
It was brought up to take a trip to Grammy’s Country Inn in Linneus and visit the Amish store on Sept. 22. Be at the church parking lot at 9 a.m. sharp.
Also Mona Lynch will be a guest on Oct. 14. Mona works for the Aroostook Agency on Aging.
After the brief meeting, the club held their auction. Donald was the auctioneer and Lorette Nicknair was his helper.

It was brought up to make a donation in memory of Ethel Giles. She was a member of the Presque Isle seniors for several years. She passed away July 14 at the age of 94. She would have been 95 on Aug. 26. A donation was made to the Logan Graves Foundation in her memory.
The next meeting will be Aug. 26 with pizza and bingo.
