“Imagine Me and You”

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gay-Straight Alliance presents “Imagine Me and You” on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium. This romantic comedy portrays the story of a young woman who falls in love on her wedding day — but not with the groom. The bride catches the eye of an unexpected guest and realizes that maybe a man is just not the one for her. This event is free and open to the public. For more information call Dick Harrison 768-9604.
Outdoor Activities Program
On Sept. 11, UMPI’s OAPI Club put together an event in which 11 students and Kim McCrea, director of the OAPI Program, went on the “Double Trouble” trip with New England Outdoor Center (NEOC) on the Penobscot River. The “Double Troubles” run the Rip genus Gorge stretch of the West Branch of the Penobscot River not once but twice in the same day. It was a beautiful fall day and everyone had a great time despite a couple of people taking a swim in the “Cribworks,” the most technical Class V section of whitewater east of the Mississippi. For more information on events like this call Kim McCrea at 768-9401.

Distinguished Lecturer

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is pleased to announce that its 2010-2011 University Distinguished Lecturer Series will continue with a presentation by Dr. Mark Noble, director of the University of Rochester Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Institute. Noble will deliver his talk, Stem Cell Biology: The Next Medical Revolution, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, in the University’s Campus Center. He will describe how the field of stem cell biology can enhance the understanding and treatment of a variety of diseases. Just as antibiotics and vaccinations revolutionized medical treatments, stem cell biology research has the potential to provide similar benefits in the treatment of cancer, neurological diseases, bone diseases, heart diseases and metabolic diseases.
The University Distinguished Lecture Series (UDLS) was established in 1999. Each year, the UDLS Committee sponsors five to six speakers who come from Maine and beyond, representing a range of disciplines and viewpoints. Noble’s lecture is free and the public is invited to be a part of this special evening. For more information, contact the University’s Community and Media Relations Office at 768-9452.
