Class of ‘54 holds 55th reunion
The Presque Isle High School Class of 1954 held their 55th class reunion last fall. A get-together was held at the American Legion. A potluck supper was served.
The next day everyone met at the Northeastland Hotel for a social hour and a wonderful family-style banquet. Gail (Bishop) Vreeland, reunion committee chairman, thanked everyone for coming and recognized Doris (Aucoin) Turner and Barbara (Roderick) Robertson for traveling the longest distance. They live in California.
Gail asked Darla (Stimpson) Chafin, the class vice-president, to say a few words of greeting and then Darla invited others to come forward and share their memories. Many did just that and told how happy they were to be back in the “old home town” especially during the Sesquicentennial year. Doug Viel and Mike O’Donnell sang a funny duet that delighted the audience.
A memorial time was led by Annette (Lamoreau) Wolfe, with 17 graduates remembered, as well as the classmates who started in our class. Gail gave the memorial prayer followed by a moment of silence.
After everyone sang the school song, Gail closed the program with the poem “Staying Young” and singing the song “Young at Heart.”
A farewell brunch was held at the hotel on Sunday morning. Before saying good-bye, everyone agreed to meet again in five years. for a 60th reunion celebration. Doris (Aucoin) Turner read a beautiful farewell poem that brought a wonderful closure to our three days together.
