Aroostook River Voices concert

to be held Sunday

ASHLAND NEWS

by Susan Feeney-Hopkins

A free Aroostook River Voices concert will be held Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Ashland District School auditorium.
Aroostook River Voices is a unique and unusual singing group led by Larry Hall. There has never been an Ashland high school chorus and Mr. Hall “melded community members” into a vocal group with the idea to encourage students to sing. Community members from all walks of life are involved, including former music students and teachers. It also includes three generations of singers. The students involved do not get credit nor are the singers paid for their time.

Besides solo vocalists, there will be instrumental accompaniment including the piano, guitar and the flute. This event, which honors our veterans, is sponsored by the Ashland Alumni Association.
Community members are encouraged to come and show their support to the students in the chorus.

Durand family gratitude

As we all have heard, the Durand family of Ashland has been dealing with a life-altering event. Jason Durand, 38, was involved in a serious car accident. First and foremost, he is alive and doing well, although he has suffered major injuries to both of his legs. While his injuries are quite serious, there are no expectations for amputation or paralysis. He will require many extensive surgeries and rehabilitation to repair the damage and will certainly be laid up for some time, but he is expected to recover.
We must remember that there is a family in crisis who could use our help and emotional support.
A fundraiser (to help the family) is being planned and is going to take place in the near future. Until then, this family would benefit greatly from your help. You can send donations to: The Durand Family Fund, P.O. Box 944, Ashland Maine 04732.
Jason, his wife of 17 years, Jennifer, and their three children would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of the prayers, cards and assistance offered and given (to the family) during this stressful time.
