Police follow leads on dead body
HOULTON — State police officers are “following up on a few leads” to identify the man whose badly decomposed body was found Nov. 4 in Stacyville, according to spokesman Steve McCausland. Official results of the autopsy begun on Monday may not be available this week, said McCausland who added that more work is expected before an identity can be confirmed. However, McCausland did say police “have a good idea of who he is.”
The man’s body was found in woods off Route 11 by deer hunters on Thursday according to state police. Authorities say there is no indication of foul play.
Detectives received information over the weekend on the man’s possible identity and have been working with the Medical Examiner’s Office and relatives in an attempt to reach a positive identification.
Police say the man was wearing a blue and white knit cap with the name “Chris” marked inside, a blue and white plaid button down shirt, khaki pants, white New Balance sneakers – size 10, and a brown jacket. A black, nylon soft briefcase was also found near the body which contained additional clothing.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Maine State Police in Houlton at 207-532-5400.
Black ice a factor in teen crash
According to state police, three teenagers were treated at Houlton Regional Hospital and released Nov. 4 following an accident partly attributed to black ice around 8 a.m. on Route 2 in Smyrna.
State police Sgt. Brian Harris said Anna McColligan, 18, of Crystal was traveling northbound when she lost control of her 1995 GMC sport utility vehicle. It careened into the path of a southbound dump truck operated by George Will, 34, of Oakfield. Kayli Farrar, 17, and Megan Long, 18, were passengers in McColligan’s vehicle.
Will, according to police reports, was unable to avoid the crash when both vehicles collided. Will did not require medical treatment, according to Harris. However, his vehicle suffered extensive damage and his cargo of large boulders was lost when the dump truck went off the side of the road and rolled onto its side.
