SACAP receives grant for art classes

The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project has received a Maine Community Foundation grant to bring free art classes to three communities in the Aroostook County area. The grant will allow for a parent and their child to work with a local artist on the development of a family project.
We will be offering the Fabric Art at the Mill Pond School in Hodgdon, Wood Turning at the Southside School in Houlton and the art of using acrylic paints and pastels to create a book at the Wellington School in Monticello. The sessions will be three hours and will include artist talks and guided instruction for the different art mediums. The sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Bob Cowperthwaite, president of SACAP says “Our goal is to provide opportunities for local families to work and learn together. We see a future where children, youth and adults alike will recognize the importance of art and cultural activities that foster the exciting cultural environment in northern Maine. A sign-up sheet will be available at the schools for those who are interested. We will be providing a pre- and post-evaluation form to gather information that will be used to continue our future goals.”
