Tourney games to be aired on radio

A local radio station will cover Eastern Maine tournament basketball action from the Bangor Auditorium Feb. 18-26, as well as tonight’s boys preliminary playoff contest begin played in Caribou.

WEGP 1390 AM in Presque Isle and wegp.net will cover the following varsity basketball teams in the playoffs: Caribou, Central Aroostook, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Madawaska, Presque Isle, Van Buren and Washburn.

The station begins its post-season coverage with tonight’s prelim game at Caribou High School between the Viking boys and Hermon. Game time is 6 p.m.

Jim Carter will handle the play-by-play duties throughout the playoffs, with Kurt Bates, Fred Parsons and Kevin Sjoberg all filling in as color commentators during the week.

The first tournament game aired will be Friday’s Class B quarterfinal showdown between the Caribou girls and Medomak Valley, which begins at 5 p.m.

MPBN will begin its annual television coverage of the tournament next Wednesday, Feb. 23. The station will air regional semifinal games and championship games from the Bangor Auditorium beginning at 2:05 p.m. that afternoon.
