Blue collar governor needs our support
To the editor:
I am very concerned that out-of-state interests are lining up rowdy resistance to our newly-elected Governor and his budget. While no one wants to see state employees suffer for the poor investment decisions of previous administrations, facts (sadly) are still facts.
The fact is we are broke, and we are going to have to make some belt-tightening decisions here and suffer some little pain here in order to avoid massive future pain — like the total dissolution (through bankruptcy) of Maine’s entire pension system.
The Governor is realistic in this budget, and if anything is making cuts that may be too little, too late. But, for the first time in decades, we have a fiscally conservative governor who is telling you what you must know, not what you want to hear.
I urge all of my fellow Mainers, including union members to support our blue collar governor and this budget, and to stand against these socialist out-of-state union bosses who are intent on collapsing the system altogether so that they can erect a Socialist/Communist monstrosity on the ashes of our current system.
