A HAPPY BIRTHDAY was celebrated by Frances Kilcollins when a surprise 90th party was held at the Mars Hill Snowmobile Club on Saturday, March 5, with many friends and family members in attendance. All enjoyed a delicious meal and special slide show. Frances, at left, is pictured with her younger sister, Katherine Lavoie, 80, of Madison. Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met at 6:30 on Tuesday morning, March 1, at the Aroostook Health Center. The special guests were members of local Girl Scout Troop 59. This group of 4th- and 5th-grade students have been working on a Bronze Award Project — refurbishing the locker rooms at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center.
To qualify for a Bronze Award, the girls have to put in 15 hours each on the planning and execution of their chosen project. They have made a long list of items that need to be done at the Community Center and have currently refurbished one of the locker rooms. They are still working on the second but need help with some funding. The Rotary Club voted to donate $300 toward the ongoing work.
Under the direction of Leader Angela McCrum and Assistant Brianne O’Leary, the girls meet twice a month. They have learned many things, gone canoeing and hiking at Mt. Katahdin and are looking for more ways to benefit the community.
