PRESQUE ISLE — With things like bankruptcy, identity theft and consumer fraud on the rise, the need for notarized written agreements and documents is ever increasing. Northern Maine Community College is offering a one-day workshop to assist interested individuals in applying for a Notary Public commission in Maine.

Discussion will include history, enabling legislation, powers and duties, qualifications, and procedures of a Notary Public, including performing civil wedding ceremonies.

Participants will receive an INM student workbook, guidebook from the Secretary of State’s office and a Notary application. Time will be allotted at the end of the day to complete the Notary application that will be forwarded to the Secretary of State’s office.

The Notary Public workshop will be held Friday, March 18 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost is $49.
