AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Economic & Community Development’s Office of Tourism recently awarded more than $895,000 in grants to eight regional tourism organizations and two special events as a part of the Maine Tourism Marketing Partnership Program.
The program utilizes funds generated by tourism spending from the previous fiscal year. The funds assist tourism-related associations and events in creating and implementing targeted marketing campaigns.
“Travel and tourism is vital to our Maine economy,” said Governor Paul LePage. “With thousands of businesses involved directly or indirectly with the travel and tourism industry we need to continue to give the tools to our tourism professionals that put us on the map and stimulate economic growth.”
“This grant is crucial to the success of marketing efforts in Aroostook County,” said Leslie Jackson of the Northern Maine Development Commission. “We have used funds from the grant to enhance our Internet presence, produce brochures and have a presence at important travel shows.”
Jackson added that the current grant will be used, in part, to promote Aroostook County’s ATV trails and to produce a scenic drives brochure.
