FORT FAIRFIELD — Lightning is being blamed for a fire Aug. 21 that heavily damaged an Elm Street home.

The fire occurred early Sunday evening when a thunderstorm rolled through the area. During the storm lightning struck an upper area of the home, setting it on fire. Firefighters from Fort Fairfield, Limestone and Loring responded to the scene and were able to contain the blaze to the second story of the house at 92 Elm Street, owned by Reggie Keiser.

The home, which is believed to be insured, sustained extensive damage to the second floor, with water and smoke damage reported on the first floor. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Firefighters returned to the structure Monday to address a hot spot. The home was not considered a total loss.
