CARIBOU — Nearly 4,600 people flocked to Spud Speedway for Feed the County Summerfest on Aug. 20 — even with the influx’s temporary nature, that’s more than a large increase for a community of just over 8,100 people.
It was all hands on deck for the Spud Speedway crew as they cooked, cleaned and directed cars and maintained crowd control for thousands of concert-goers, but they weren’t alone.
From when the gates opened at 3 until the last taillights disappeared into the night, members of the Caribou C.E.R.T.’s team (Community Emergency Response Team) helped the venue run smoothly; not quite every audience member behaved themselves at the concert, but problems that did occur were addressed so promptly that they went relatively unnoticed by the average audience member.
CERTS volunteers whole heartedly agreed to assist with Feed the County Summerfest when asked for involvement from Spud Speedway owner Troy Haney, who expressed his appreciation of the CERTS team efforts and other volunteers.
“The Caribou Police Department, Caribou Fire Department and officials with the Fire Marshall’s office all came together to help us make this event a safe and enjoyable show for everybody,” he said.
