Rathbun Lumber Co. in Presque Isle has provided building materials and recommendations to area residents since 1947.

This past winter saw several new changes, from reorganizing the store interior and updating their hardware lines to installing a new computer system, beefing up their paint center with new state-of-the art computerized paint mixing technology, and creating a new interactive website.
“Technology has given us the ability to provide our customers with better information than ever. They can now go online and research their projects and products they will need, so they are more informed when they come in to the store,” said Alden Rathbun, who owns the business with his wife, Pat. “At that point, they can see samples and displays of most of the major products, such as sidings, roofing, decking, mouldings and trims.
“Our website, www.rathbunlumber.com, includes information about us, our sales staff, and about all the products we carry,” he said. “A new feature on the website allows a customer to request a contact or a quote online. We are also launching on Facebook. We try to respond to all requests as quickly as possible. Our new business software also allows us to send invoices and statements by e-mail, which really streamlines business for many of our customers, especially government offices, schools, churches where there may be several people making purchases, and different departments. Once a purchase is made, they get the invoice immediately.”
Kitchen and bath design is another important service that Rathbun Lumber offers.
“Lisa Plourde, our kitchen designer and a member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, offers free consultations and planning assistance,” said Pat Rathbun. “In addition to cabinet and countertop displays, the interior design showroom features wood, laminate, composite, and tile flooring, bath fixtures, and accessories.”
