Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods and Jim Mockler, CFD captain and training coordinator, have announced that the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department will once again be conducting a Future Firefighter Program, beginning the first of the new year. This is a 10-to-12-week program in which participants meet one night each week at the Caribou Fire Department.

This program is intended to introduce students who are interested in a career in fire service/emergency medical services, to the basics of those professions. Students will learn about the fire service through both class instruction and hands-on experience.

Those who complete the class and successfully pass an end test may be eligible to become volunteers with the department.

All students looking to be enrolled in Future Fighter Program must fill out an application form which can be obtained at the Caribou High School guidance office or at the Caribou Fire Station. Participants must also maintain passing school grades during the course, obtain a doctor’s clearance to participate and parental permission is required.
