‘Connection’ workshops to support
families of infants and toddlers
The Aroostook Infant Toddler Team will be hosting a series of free “connection” workshops for expectant mothers and families of infants and toddlers.
Pam Caron, early childhood occupations instructor, said that “nurturing relationships between parents and their little ones is foundational to their healthy development and this actually begins during pregnancy. This four-part series is one way of fostering those connections.”
Parents are invited to attend each session to explore new ways of sharing time with their children.
In February, infant massage with Diana Higgins will be the topic. Parents will leave with hands-on techniques, a nice bag and a bottle of massage oil to continue this bonding activity at home.
In March, kiddie literacy with Diana Leighton will be the focus. Parents will enjoy story-telling activities and will leave with new books to share with their children.
In April, parent/infant/toddler yoga with Caron will be explored. Parents and little ones will connect on the mat as they share yoga stories. Families will receive more gifts to foster attachment.
In May, sign language with Heidi Broad-Smith will be the featured activity. Again parents will receive resources to add to their bag.
Funding from the statewide community infant toddler team has enabled the county team to offer these free series in three locations throughout Aroostook County. Workshops will be held in Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Houlton. Parents are encouraged to register early since space is limited to 15 families per site.
