Mardi Gras Celebration on Feb. 19

By Natalie Bazinet

LIMESTONE — It’ll be an evening filled with fun, food and festivities on Feb. 19 at members of the Limestone Methodist Church hold their annual Mardi Gras Celebration and the more, the merrier (just be sure to RSVP by Feb. 18).

Between the games, crafts and decadent foods, it’s a tossup as to whether the kids or parents enjoy the event more.

A favorite (and delicious) event of the evening is, of course, the King’s Cake because whoever finds the baby Jesus in the King’s Cake gets to lead the parade.

The evening’s signature dishes — like pancakes and ham — are a great opportunity for attendees to indulge in favorite foods before many give them up during Lent (beginning on Feb. 22).

Pastor Ellen Cleaves explained that the King’s Cake is her favorite facet of the evening.

“It’s a sweet roll with three different colored icings — purple, green and gold,” she explained. “The purple represents justice, the green represents faith and the gold stands for power.”

Individuals wishing to attend the Mardi Gras Celebration at the Limestone Methodist Church are encouraged to RSVP to 325-4870 so that organizers can plan accordingly.
