Regular hoop season ends

    The regular high school basketball season has come to a close and playoff games began this week, with the Eastern Maine Tournament being held Feb. 17-25 at the Bangor Auditorium.
    To finish out the season last Friday night, the Hodgdon girls downed GHCA, 72-31, while in the nightcap, the Hodgdon boys topped GHCA, 64-53.
    Jennah Steamer led Hodgdon with 12 points and Haley Gardiner posted 11 more in the win. Sara Fitzpatrick netted nine points, while Britta Oliver chipped in with eight.
    For GHCA, Olivia Lord led the way with 12 points, while Colby Walker added eight.
    In the boys’ game, the two clubs battled back and forth, with Hodgdon coming out on top behind Josh Hudson’s game-high 25 points, including 18 in the second half, and Nick Lunn’s 20.
    GHCA scorers were Ethan Holmes with 24, including 18 second-half points and Micah Wiley’s 20.

    Central Aroostook overtook Katahdin, 79-47, last Friday in Stacyville.
    The Panthers’ Brendan York scored 25 points, while Steven Decker had 16 and Mike McClung finished with 12 more.
    For Katahdin, Bill Livezey tossed in 17 and Wyatt Morse added 12.
    The East Grand boys were upset 62-14 by visiting Acadia Christian.
    Logan Crone and Kenny Winiarski each had six points.
    Last Wednesday, the Limestone/MSSM girls defeated host Southern Aroostook, 51-41, in Dyer Brook.
    Sable Altvater led the Lady Warriors with 14 points, while Olivia Raymond tossed in 13 and Jess Tucker added nine.
    The Houlton Shiretowners held a 25-18 halftime lead over Caribou, but the Vikings outscored the Shires, 21-8 in the third en route to a 57-53 win.
    Kyle Bouchard knocked down 14 points, while Nick Guiod tallied 10. Isaiha Straubel added nine and Dan Swallow chipped in with eight.
    At Hodgdon, the GHCA girls and boys hosted Wisdom.
    In the girls’ game, Wisdom held a narrow, 19-18, halftime advantage, but in the third quarter, the Pioneers put distance between themselves and GHCA, 33-28 en route to a 47-44 win.
    Destinee Neureuther keyed GHCA with 16 points, while Allison Little netted 11 and Lord added nine more.
    In the boys’ game, GHCA took a 26-10 opening lead and held a 38-18 advantage on their way to a 74-50 victory over Wisdom.
    Wiley paced GHCA’s offense with 18 points, while Holmes chipped in with 12 and Deyrell Vargas, 11.
