LITTLETON, Maine —A two-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Littleton Tuesday evening sent a Caribou woman to the hospital.
According to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police, Taylor Hartley of Caribou was traveling north in a 2003 Hyundai sedan, at 6:45 p.m., when she slammed into a 2003 Pontiac SUV operated by Sheri Pryor of Monticello. Pryor was attempting to back out of a driveway and pulled into the path of Hartley.
Harris said Pryor did not see Hartley approaching when she pulled out onto U.S. Route 1.
“Hartley braked and tried to avoid Pryor, but couldn’t and struck Pryor’s vehicle in the driver’s side door, flipping Pryor’s vehicle onto its side,” Harris said.
A passenger in Hartley’s vehicle, Laurie Hartley of Caribou, was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by ambulance for complaint of pain. The airbags in both vehicles deployed and seatbelts were used by all occupants, Harris said.
Sgt. Harris was assisted at the scene by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol and Houlton Fire and Ambulance. Traffic on Route 1 was contained to one lane for approximately an hour and a half while the accident was investigated and the scene cleared.
Both vehicles were a total loss with Pryor’s vehicle sustaining heavy damage to the driver’s side and Hartley’s vehicle sustaining substantial front end damage.
