Trash Time

Dear Houlton Pioneer Editor,
    Hello, my name is Samantha Grahn. I am sending you this letter because I want to have a cleaner community. In our community there is trash everywhere and I know we can do something about it. It is not safe for anybody, not even the animals. It just needs to start with one person. We can have a cleaner community. We need to do something about this, so why not get the school and town involved.
    One of the things that I had in mind was having a Go Green Club. The club would require kids meeting up once a week to help the community. We could make an annual recycling calendar. Also, we could go to the businesses in our town to make sure they are recycle. Hang up signs in local business to remind people to recycling. Check with the town office to see if there are enough trash cans. It would really help our community. This club would be a great way for kids in Houlton to help.
    No one thinks of this, but what about the animals? If you are littering, animals can become sick, choke on the trash or suffocate them selves. It’s not safe or healthy for the animals. A lot of animals die because of littering. If they see trash they think it’s food. If we don’t litter more animals would be safe and alive.
    We could also raise money to inform the town that we need to help our area. To raise money we can do a bottle drive, have a community clean up day, and have signs in local stores, churches, and restaurants. This would set a example that our town cares. If other people see this they might start helping out and more people would be aware. We need to do what is best for our town.
    No one likes to live in an area with trash everywhere and pollution. We need to help our town, so the animals and we don’t have to live in an area that is polluted. This will save the animals too. We can do this. And we need to do is get the word out and pitch in too. This can change our town. We need to do this and we need to do it now.
